- You should sit so your body is centered in line with D (next to Middle C) NOT just any C!
- You should be seated so your feet can rest flat on the floor or you may need to use a foot stool.
- You may need to sit forward on the piano stool or chair.
- There should be some distance between you and the piano, not too close or too far away.
- Your arms (from your elbow to your wrists) should be parallel to the floor.
- Your hands should be well up on the white notes to prevent wrists from sagging.
- You should not “rest” your palms on the piano whilst playing at all.
- Try to avoid “bouncing” your hand when you play your notes and ensure your thumb remains “over” the white notes.
- Fingers should be slightly rounded and curved.
- Sit with good posture, stretch your back upwards and avoid slumping or rounding your shoulders.
- There will be times when you need to glance at your fingers and piano keys, but most times your eyes should be reading the music!
